In the UK, launched a large-scale project of global significance for the collection of wild ancestors of domesticated plants.

Scientists from the Botanical Garden of London will cross the modern house plants with their wild ancestors in order to obtain new varieties more tolerant and helpful. It is planned to collect 450 different wild plants in order to improve the genotype of 29 kinds of vegetables, fruits and cereals, such as beans, peas, carrots, potatoes, oats, lentils and chickpeas. For the collection of wild plants scientists have to go to Asia, Africa and South America.

Perhaps the work of scientists lead to the emergence of entirely new varieties of plants with new taste, shape or color.
